Project Description

A former chemical company that manufactured caustic soda, soda ash, chlorinated benzenes, and other products at a site near Onondaga Lake from 1917 through 1986 released mercury, solvents, calcium, and other pollutants into the lake. OSC was contracted for Phase 2 of the project as a measure to stop the migration of contamination into Onondaga Lake.


  • Installation of a 3,048 linear feet Sheet Pile Barrier Wall along the shore.
  • Excavation and relocation of Solvay Waste to allow for the installation and backfill  of 3,250 linear feet of a groundwater collection trench (4-inch and 6-inch FRP piping at 8 to 14 feet below ground surface).
  • Installation of 3 Pump Stations with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Pumping and pretreatment of over 8,000,000 gallons of water collected during construction.
