USL Battery Corporation began the manufacture of automobile batteries at the Tract I & II location on Highland Ave., in Niagara Falls, NY. In 1942 the company name changed to Auto-Lite Battery Corporation and eventually to Electric Auto-Lite Company in 1955 followed by Prestolite. Battery making ceased in the 1970’s; and by the mid 1980’s, the building was abandoned, with the City of Niagara Falls taking over as the Owner of the Site.
Health & Environmental Risks
Lead, VOC, SVOC and petroleum impacted soils from the surface to various depths throughout the site.
Numerous above and below-grade structures in poor repair and containing hazardous substances.
Numerous Underground Storage Tanks (UST’s) containing product and contaminated water.
Our Solution
Accepted into the NYSDEC Brownfield Cleanup Program in April 2012.
Remediation included Asbestos Abatement, Demolition, UST Removal and Disposal, Excavation, Screening, Stabilization and Impoundment of Lead Impacted Soil.
Construction of a clean utility corridor and Storm Sewer System.
Certificates of Completion issued on Dec. 2014 for Tract I and Nov. 2018 for Tract II.
$25 Million Investment.
Turnkey Operation consisted of sitework and construction of 80,000 SF pre-engineered building with no disruption to the operations of the existing 114-year-old Tulip Manufacturing Industrial Facility.
Retention of 70+ employees.
